Isle of Wight Literary Festival
We were excited to see six authors this week as part of the Isle of Wight Literary Festival Schools' Programme and to host over 200 children from visiting schools to share the opportunity to hear from amazing authors.
The Senior School had an inspiring assembly with Simon Howes, the second oldest person to row the Atlantic single-handedly and who raised over £100k in the process for the Isle of Wight Red Squirrel Trust.
On Thursday we welcomed the Rt Hon Stuart Lawrence, brother of Stephen Lawrence for an inspirational session based on his books and life as a teacher, author and youth engagement specialist. We also enjoyed interactive sessions with Tracey Corderoy in the Pre-Prep; Ian Dickens in Prep who is the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens; Neal Layton, an illustrator and writer and Marina Bennett a writer for teens with stories of islands and boarding school adventures. It was great to have such an exciting group in the school and hopefully pupils have come home with a few stories.
