Ryde School seeks to appoint a Head of Hockey who will lead the hockey programme across the School, taking responsibility for the coaching, progress and development of all hockey players from 2-18 years. All teaching and coaching staff at the School are expected to be outstanding practitioners both in and out of the classroom and to contribute to the busy co-curricular life in the School. The successful candidate will be able to take up the post from September 2025.

ESTATES OPERATIVE - GROUNDS And MAINTENANCE

Full Time, Permanent

We have a new opportunity for an Estates Operative to join our team. The role will require the successful candidate to be part of a multi-skilled team dedicated to maintaining and upholding the buildings, gardens and grounds in a 17-acre site. Our purpose is to provide an exceptional education on the Isle of Wight, enabling our boarding and day pupils to flourish in mind, body and soul. We nurture pupils to make a positive difference and embrace the opportunities of the wider world.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, key duties will include:

  • Ensuring that a safe external environment exists for pupils and staff
  • Preparing sports pitches as required
  • Maintaining buildings, gardens and lawns
  • Maintaining pathways, car parks etc
  • Maintaining fences and signage
  • Control of access to the site in conjunction with the caretaker
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant applicable legislation, such as Health and Safety, First Aid, COSHH, Environment Management and Employment to ensure compliance in all areas

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a proven track record in performing general building, carpentry, maintenance and grounds tasks.
  • Experience using a variety of tools and machinery.
  • Have the adaptability to coordinate the wide variety of tasks needed both planned and reactive, from season to season.
  • Take pride in your work, understanding and contributing towards the School’s drive for excellence.
  • Be a team player, willing to share knowledge and ideas, and also able to learn from your colleagues.
  • Hold a current driving licence

Location and Hours of Work
This is a full-time year-round position. The successful candidate must be able to commit to working occasional weekends and late evenings as and when required.

We currently have a new opportunity for an experienced Chef to join our talented catering team. This role will suit a self-motivated individual who can work with minimum supervision in a vibrant and busy kitchen environment. Working alongside a team of chefs you will contribute to the preparation, cooking and presentation of delicious food for our pupils, staff and visitors. We are passionate and hard-working catering professionals, dedicated to creating an outstanding culinary experience for our customers. We pride ourselves on producing the food for our menus to the highest standards in a clean, tidy, safe and pleasant environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Working effectively as part of our team to prepare delicious, high-quality food that delights our pupils, staff and visitors.Being an enthusiastic team player and an excellent communicator.
  • Helping with general kitchen tasks as directed.
  • Performing accurate stock checks.
  • Assisting with the preparation and delivery of hospitality, covering events and summer lettings outside of term time (this is managed on a rota basis).
  • Full understanding and compliance of Allergen legislation and Natasha’s Law.
  • Ensuring kitchen hygiene and food safety standards are maintained to the highest level and legislative HACCP requirements.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness both front and back of the house (to include both light and deep cleaning schedules).
  • Complying with the schools Health and Safety regulations.
  • Be a strong communicator, able to easily build relationships.

Catering Assistant

FULL TIME, TERM TIME (plus 2 weeks ½ weeks)
PERMANENT

Ryde School is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for children aged 2 -18 years old. We are currently looking for a Catering Assistant to join our team and contribute towards the delivery of our first-class food service.

Our purpose is to provide an exceptional education on the Isle of Wight, enabling our boarding and day pupils to flourish in mind, body and soul. We nurture pupils to make a positive difference and embrace the opportunities of the wider world. In this role you will be part of our busy Catering team serving pupils, staff and visitors with fresh and nutritious food with a varied menu that changes daily. Routine tasks such as setting up the service counters, serving food and cleaning down the service area and dining hall are key components of the job. Assisting with the cleaning of utensils, crockery and cutlery will also be necessary to support the smooth running of the overall dining experience. As you would expect in a role like this, being approachable for our customers whilst working in an efficient and tidy manner is essential. Full responsibilities are detailed in the job description.

The boarding environment creates the need for us to work 7 days per week, to include evenings and weekends, and the rota system allows us to create a fair division of the work. The hours of work for this particular role are 33 hours per week.
