FAQs
1. How do I apply for a Scholarship? How do I apply for financial support/bursary? |
---|
Scholarships open up means-tested bursaries. The application window for scholarships opens in September and closes at the end of October every year. Details and application forms are available on our scholarships page. |
2. At what age can my child join the Nursery and when will they receive government funding? |
We take children from the age of two years in the Nursery and you can receive up to 15 hours of government funded care after they have turned three years old. |
3. When can I visit? |
You are welcome to visit the School at any time during the term by booking a private visit. Open Mornings are always on the first Saturdays of October and February and we have a Sixth Form information evening in October. We also run a casual ‘stay and play’ Saturday coffee morning for the Prep School in March - please see our webpage for details: |
4. What does the school day look like and what are the term dates? |
Our school days vary across the sections of the school but mainly fit within an 8.30am start (Breakfast Club available from 8am) and a 3.30/4 or 4.15 end (with Supper Club available until 6pm). Please see the Term Dates page and relevant school section ‘Life in…’ pages for more information: |
5. What is the breakdown of numbers of day/boarding boys/girls? how many in the Senior school, breakdown of nationalities, class sizes, etc. |
We have a whole school of around 790 pupils with approx 600 in the Senior and Sixth From and 200 in the Prep School. We have around 70 boarders with around 15 different nationalities on average. We have a maximum class size of 22 in the Senior School and 15 in the Sixth Form. Prep School averages 12 to 20. |
6. How do I apply? Are people able to join mid-year? |
Please visit the admissions page for details on how to apply and the registration form. Pupils are considered for entry into any year group throughout the School where there are places available. We would not normally consider entry half way through GCSE or A Level/ IB courses though we do offer a one year GCSE programme for pupils joining in Year 11 which is ideal for someone wanting to prepare for Sixth form entry or seeking a year in a British school with qualifications at the end. Please click here for more info and to contact admissions: |
7. Do children have to sit entrance tests and is it a pass/fail exam? What do the tests consist of? |
Yes, all children applying to Ryde will sit a small number of tests. Although we do not run competitive entrance exams, we do need to ensure that all pupils can access our academic curriculum. In the case of students entering the Sixth Form from other British curriculum schools, admission is based on interview and GCSE results. We expect students joining our Sixth Form on any of our three programmes (IB Diploma, A Level Plus or IB Career-related Programme) to have a minimum five GCSE passes at grade 5 or above with grades 6 in the subjects they wish to study at A Level or Higher Level IB (students for IBCP need at least 5 grade 5s to access the course.) |
8. What is the uniform, where do we get it and how much does it cost? Do you have a second hand shop? |
We have a set uniform at Ryde which changes as children progress through the school. All uniform is available through an online shop and also the uniform shop on Union Street in Ryde. Costs are kept to a minimum by specifying a limited amount that is compulsory with other items available if wanted (but are not compulsory to have branded). Nursery, Prep-Prep, Prep School, Senior and Sixth Form uniforms are detailed on the online shop website. For secondhand uniform parents run a successful Facebook group where they swap and sell items to each other. |
9. What are the fees? When are they payable? Can we pay a year in advance? Can we pay by direct debit? |
Fees are payable in advance and can be seen at this link: Fees and Financial Information. Direct debit is preferable as a payment method and attracts a discounted fee. |
10. What subjects do you offer? |
Please see the curriculum sections of the section of the school you are interested in: |
11. Do you accept Childcare vouchers? |
In Westhill Nursery any hours not covered by the 15 Government funded hours, can be paid for by Childcare vouchers or the Tax-Free Childcare scheme. |
